What Is A 301 Redirect?2023-01-11T16:12:30+00:00

301 redirects are used to point both Google and humans to new page URLs, when old pages have been removed or renamed.

This does several things, it helps pass the value of the old page or post to the new one, it means that if the page was indexed in Google then anyone clicking on the search results doesn’t end up on a page that doesn’t exist.

It also means that any links already set up on your website are set to the new page, meaning that anyone visiting an old link is presented with a relevant page, rather than a 404.

Is Page Speed A Ranking Factor On Google?2023-01-11T15:56:42+00:00

Yes, as part of monitoring user experience Google takes page speed into account.

Google stated in 2010 that “Like us, our users place a lot of value in speed – that’s why we’ve decided to take site speed into account in our search rankings“.

When it comes to page speed it’s important to think about it from a user experience and a conversion point of view, no one wants to wait for a website to load, so a slow-loading website could be costing you sales.

So yes, you should work hard to optimise your eCommerce website’s page speed. There are many factors that can affect this including hosting, website theme or template, plugins, image sizes and overall setup.

You can use Google Page Speed insights to check your results.

Is Duplicate Content Ok For SEO On An eCommerce Site?2022-04-06T21:33:44+01:00

This is a yes and no answer. As an eCommerce store you will have probably taken your product descriptions from your supplier, so you will find that everyone else who also purchases from that supplier use the same description. In that respect Google expects that people will have similar or the same product descriptions and your rankings wont be hurt by that. HOWEVER SEO isn’t just about ranking and owning an eCommerce store isn’t just about getting visitors, it’s about sales. Google want to provide the best results to the people searching, so if you can write a better description, provide all the benefits or the products you sell and answer any questions they have, you will have a better chance of converting that visitor to a customer and also Google will reward you with better rankings because your content is different and provides all the information a user needs. Having better conversion rates due to better descriptions also means fewer people will bounce back to Google and click another supplier so Google will know that your site is useful again giving better rankings.

How Much Does eCommerce SEO Cost?2022-02-21T12:06:58+00:00

The cost of SEO for your eCommerce store will depend on a multitude of factors including:

  • Where your current positions are
  • How competitive those keywords are
  • How much authority your website currently has
  • Who your competitors are and what work they are doing with regards to SEO

We always recommend that SEO is completed as part of one of our packages, to make sure that you get the best ROI and have a site worthy of ranking in the top spots on Google. If you schedule a FREE strategy call with us, we can take a look at your website, look at the competition and give you prices for your eCommerce SEO.

How Long Does eCommerce SEO Take?2023-01-11T16:04:27+00:00

eCommerce SEO should be considered as a continuous investment not a one off service.

Sometimes the optimisation of pages and technical SEO can have an impact on rankings within days and many sites we work on see movement within the 1st month, but that does not mean your eCommerce website will rank at the top of Google for every keyword that quickly.

Things to take into consideration are;

  1. Where your website/page currently ranks for a specific keyword. If you already have good rankings, you may see some ranking gains within a few days.
  2. How competitive your keywords are. If you’re in a tough industry with lots of competitors spending lots of money on SEO, then it’s going to take a while, but will be worth the time as good rankings will be worth it.
  3. Competitors Authority. If you’re up against high authority website domains which are already well-optimised, be prepared for a long journey.

Our team of eCommerce SEO experts will work with you to create realistic goals which are achievable within your budgets and timeframes. We want you to see an ROI as fast as possible. So if you are in a competitive industry, we will start with the quick wins so you start to see sales and then move on to the bigger tougher keywords.

How Do You Do SEO For eCommerce Websites?2022-04-06T21:32:57+01:00

There are 3 main factors that you need to optimise on eCommerce websites:

  1. Content – Do you have good content? Is that the type of content Google is looking for that specific search phrase? By that what we mean is what is the search intent for that keyword? Is the person searching looking for information, navigational, commercial or transactional content.
  2. Technical – Does you website load in fast time? Do you have the correct on-site content such as heading tags, meta tags, schema markup? And are they optimised for the keywords you want to be found for?
  3. Authority – Do you have enough people linking to your website? Are these links coming from authority sources and passing authority to your website. This factor is something that most business owners struggle with even if they are able to work on the two tasks above.
Does Having Keywords In Your Domain Name Help SEO?2023-01-11T15:39:14+00:00

The quick and short answer is no!

In today’s Google algorithm, there is no ranking benefit in including keywords in your domain name. However you should consider if having a keyword in your domain name will increase the chances of people clicking through to your website as Click Through Rate or CTR does effect your rankings. However unless this is going to be your main domain name then we wouldn’t suggest you purchase it just to forward it on to the main website.

You may find that some websites say that it is a ranking factor, however check the dates of those articles as it was once a ranking factor, it just isn’t any more.

Do You SEO The Product Pages On An eCommerce Website?2023-01-11T16:15:05+00:00

Absolutely we do!

The SEO strategy used by our experts will vary site to site however if it would make sense for a visitor to land directly on the product page then we will work hard to make that the case. Our job is to make life easier for the visitors so they can find what they want, so they will purchase from you rather than someone else.

Do We Need SEO Friendly URLs?2023-01-11T16:09:08+00:00

The answer here is yes, BUT if you currently aren’t using them then don’t just change them over there is a bit of planning needed!

Keyword-rich URLs are typically the default standard but sometimes settings get changed and you need to optimise them. If you need to change your URL’s remember to take note of the current URLs and setup the correct 301 redirects.

SEO Friendly URLs are an important part of your eCommrece SEO project but it’s important that you do it correctly.

Do Meta Tags Help SEO?2023-01-11T15:50:31+00:00

Yes, although they don’t carry as much weight as they use to.

Page meta titles and descriptions and image alt tags, for example, help search engines understand what a page is about and what it might consider ranking that page for. These features also help with accessibility.

You do need to be aware that Meta Tags, are often not displayed by Google like they used to be and Google Often replace them with content on your website.

Do Internal Links Help With SEO?2023-01-11T15:41:13+00:00

Yes.

The way you link your content internally and the volume of the links to a specific page will help search engines understand which of your pages are the most important on your site.

We have also found that the anchor text you use to link to those internal pages indicates to a search engine what they should be ranking for.

Do eCommerce Conversions Affect SEO?2022-02-21T15:35:34+00:00

In short yes! While Google currently say they don’t look at analytics data for search rankings, there are other ways they can measure the success of the search results they provide. The first is Click Through Rate or CTR, from our test we have found the more clicks a website gets the better it’s rankings, this is an easy metric for Google to track. Secondly they can tell if you return to the search results and click another link after visiting your website, again it would be a negative factor if someone visited your website, then went back to Google clicked your competitors website but then didn’t go back to the search results, they would presume the competitor provided the information you didn’t. So while they MAY not be tracking conversions, the are tracking usage and user behaviour so you want to make sure when someone visits your website you are providing all the information they need about that product so they don’t go back to Google and click your competitors link.

Do Blogs Help With SEO?2023-01-11T15:48:13+00:00

Yes, having a blog and regularly posting great content can help your SEO strategy. We even offer a content marketing service to do this for you.

Creating optimised blog content helps you get found for many different keywords that you can’t naturally get ranked for in your product descriptions. This content is often much easier to rank than your product or category pages, which are typically much more competitive. You can get found when people are searching for information about your products or if they are not sure what products to buy, bringing them into your sales funnel.

You can use this content to link to your product pages to improve your eCommerce SEO. Linking from relevant, supporting content to your sales pages helps a search engine understand your depth of knowledge and expertise.

Are Product Categories Important When It Comes To SEO?2023-01-11T16:06:26+00:00

Yes…Sometimes!

When we start working on your eCommerce website we will complete some SEO Analysis to determine if product category SEO is important for your website.

If there are search terms we want to rank your Product Category pages for, you can be sure that will be part of the SEO strategy we introduce.
